Handry Satriago: Creating leaders to pave way for growth

Handry Satriago, CEO of General Electric (GE)Indonesia, believes in the power of learning, which not only keeps a leader and people highly motivated, but also helps them achieve a shared goal.

All corporate leaders are responsible for the growth of the companies they lead. For Handry Satriago, a business executive with a multinational company, creating another leader is as equally crucial as the issue of growth. 

 “A lot of leaders probably only think about how to become a good leader in the context of a leadership style, charisma, vision, etc. But I think there is a basic element as a leader: Creating Leaders. So, the job of a leader is to create another leader,” said the CEO of US-based GE Electric Indonesia, sitting in his wheelchair.

Creating another leader in the context of a corporation will help the company to grow in a sustainable manner as more people will have the expected leadership qualities.

Handry sees providing the required relevant training as a strategic move for creating leaders, whether they are born with the DNA of a leader or not. “Someone may be born a leader but if he or she is not trained, then he or she might not become a leader. On the other hand, someone may not have the leadership criteria but if he or she gets trained, he or she can become a leader,” he said in clear and convincing voice.

Handry started his career journey with GE in 1997 as business development manager at GE International. Following the more than 15 years of working at GE in various positions of increasing responsibility, he was promoted to be CEO of GE Indonesia in July 2010.

The executive described his career journey as ‘just flowing’, but how he was promoted to be CEO was a memorable experience for him. It was done aboard a plane, when he and several GE top officials were on their way to Indonesia following a working visit to Vietnam.

Three years after his appointment as CEO of GE Indonesia, GE made great strides regarding human capital, with more than 100 Indonesian talents recruited, specially preparing for the future leaders up to corporate management level, which is expected to help GE business in Indonesia to grow by US$5 billion in 2017. 

People with leadership traits, according to Handry, are those who have a passion to do something for others, eager to create another leader and never stop learning. 

“Apart from the three basic elements, a leader should also embrace corporate values like integrity, being humble and the ability to face uncertainty,” said the 46-year-old.

In creating other leaders, a leader can do it by selecting good people, coaching, mentoring, giving training, inspiration, etc., according to Handry. In relation to this, in 2013 GE announced a plan to allocate $300 million in the coming five years to establish the GE Indonesia Learning Center, which will serve as a center for leadership training and technical programs, and other iniatives to strengthen its presence in Indonesia.

This initiative will give a chance for the future leaders of the company to participate in the leadership development program, which is ordinarily only available at GE Corporate University in Crotonville, New York, the US, according to Handry.

Being a leader also means that he or she is willing to listen and keep learning and that’s why people at GE are constantly encouraged to learn. “We are a company that opens our door as widely as possible for all to learn. That’s the reason why I keep staying here because I keep learning new things. I like a situation in which I meet great people who can inspire me to do better.”

Handry Satriago was born in Pekanbaru, Riau on June 13, 1969. During his teenage years, Handry was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma, forcing him to sit on a wheelchair until today. He was at first shocked and could not believe it, but the physical limitation does not lessen his spirit. “A true leader can be seen from how he handles a difficult problem and rise from it,” he once said.

Having a mindset of learning is of importance to boost one’s confidence, which will help achieve his or her goal. “Don’t be afraid of making a mistake or afraid of looking bad. If your mindset is about making improvements, then this will not easily make you feel down and lose confidence,” said Handry when asked how to enhance one’s self-confidence. 

In undertaking day-day-to-day operations, Handry entrusts his solid team, with each member expected to have an “ability to inspire and empower others”, one of the company’s essential values. He also underscored the importance of communication.

“It is important to ensure that everybody can be contacted, especially in this age of high technology in which we can send and receive emails anytime and anywhere,” he said, adding, “I sometimes send emails in the middle of the night.”

Creating a fun and informal working environment with not-too-rigid regulation on, for example, when the staff comes and leaves the office is also essential to enhance people’s sense of professionalism. “People are expected to enjoy their work and do their best,” he said.

However, silos remains a major issue in corporate management as people from different divisions work hard, which leads them to be drawn into their respective jobs. “How to bridge the silos is by having fun and, for example, by having a meal together, etc. We make sure that our success is based on business success and so we have to make sure that we are part of the team,” he said.

 “It is also important to be proud of what we are doing and contributing something, not necessarily related directly to business,” said Handry, also a member of IPMI Business School Advisory Board and the chairman of GE Volunteer Indonesia Chapter.

Despite his tight schedule, the highly spirited Handry allocates his time to share his thoughts and experiences with others, not only people within his company, but also students from various colleges, institutes and youth communities in the country as he wishes Indonesian people to compete globally. 

“I like being engaged in educational activities because I feel alive when I do it, when I am around in the campus and when I meet people.

“I also enjoy doing volunteer activities because this unites us as social beings. I like having new friends and they do not necessarily come from a business society, as I like diversity,” said Handry, who also serves as a member of the Indonesia Committee of the US-ASEAN Business Council.

Handry has his own perspective on success. 

“A success in life is when you feel it. When you feel that you can accomplish something, that’s a success. And so, each individual is different and cannot be measured by material things. There are those who have nothing, but they feel successful.”

 “Don’t define a success. The more you define a success, the more you will be trapped by your own definition,” he advised.

Hanging out with friends

I try to enjoy things with friends. Hanging out with friends is as important as work itself as we can become robots very easily. I always have time for friends and I always have time for myself. A work-life balance is important. We have to go with the flow, find the dynamics and maximize enjoyment. I feel happy if I can share something with friends and with the community.

Morning ritual

In the morning I do my sports, cardio vascular exercises. I shadow box and then I eat chicken porridge before completing a crossword puzzle. I also just “do nothing” and make an empty space. 

No favorite foods

In regard to foods, I have no particular kinds of foods that I like most. I just flow in terms of choice. I eat Padang food, Javanese foods, etc.

3 Important Decisions That Will Change Your Life by Tony Robbins

There’s nothing worse than a rich person who’s chronically angry or unhappy. There’s really no excuse for it, yet I see this phenomenon every day. It results from an extremely unbalanced life, one with too much expectation and not enough appreciation for what’s there.

Without gratitude and appreciation for what you already have, you’ll never know true fulfillment. But how do you cultivate balance in life? What’s the point of achievement if your life has no balance?

For nearly four decades, I’ve had the privilege of coaching people from every walk of life, including some of the most powerful men and women on the planet. I’ve worked with presidents of the United States as well as owners of small businesses.   

Across the board, I’ve found that virtually every moment people make three key decisions that dictate the quality of their lives.

If you make these decisions unconsciously, you'll end up like majority of people who tend to be out of shape physically, exhausted emotionally and often financially stressed. But if you make these decisions consciously, you can literally change the course of your life today. 

Decision 1: Carefully choose what to focus on.

At every moment, millions of things compete for your attention. You can focus on things that are happening right here and now or on what you want to create in the future. Or you can focus on the past.

Where focus goes, energy flows. What you focus on and your pattern for doing so shapes your entire life. 

Which area do you tend to focus on more: what you have or what’s missing from your life?

I’m sure you think about both sides of this coin. But if you examine your habitual thoughts, what do you tend to spend most of your time dwelling on? 

Rather than focusing on what you don’t have and begrudging those who are better off than you financially, perhaps you should acknowledge that you have much to be grateful for and some of it has nothing to do with money. You can be grateful for your health, family, friends, opportunities and mind.

Developing a habit of appreciating what you have can create a new level of emotional well-being and wealth. But the real question is, do you take time to deeply feel grateful with your mind, body, heart and soul? That’s where the joy, happiness and fulfillment can be found. 

Consider a second pattern of focus that affects the quality of your life: Do you tend to focus more on what you can control or what you can’t?

If you focus on what you can’t control, you’ll have more stress in life. You can influence many aspects of your life but you usually can’t control them. 

When you adopt this pattern of focus, your brain has to make another decision:  

Decision 2: Figure out, What does this all mean?

Ultimately, how you feel about your life has nothing to do with the events in it or with your financial condition or what has (or hasn't) happened to you. The quality of your life is controlled by the meaning you give these things.

Most of the time you may be unaware of the effect of your unconscious mind in assigning meaning to life’s events. 

When something happens that disrupts your life (a car accident, a health issue, a job loss), do you tend to think that this is the end or the beginning?

If someone confronts you, is that person insulting you, coaching you or truly caring for you?

Does a devastating problem mean that God is punishing you or challenging you? Or is it possible that this problem is a gift from God? 

Your life takes on whatever meaning you give it. With each meaning comes a unique feeling or emotion and the quality of your life involves where you live emotionally. 

I always ask during my seminars, “How many of you know someone who is on antidepressants and still depressed?” Typically 85 percent to 90 percent of those assembled raise their hands.

How is this possible? The drugs should make people feel better. It's true that antidepressants do come with labels warning that suicidal thoughts are a possible side effect.

But no matter how much a person drugs himself, if he constantly focuses on what he can’t control in life and what’s missing, he won't find it hard to despair. If he adds to that a meaning like “life is not worth living,” that's an emotional cocktail that no antidepressant can consistently overcome. 

Yet if that same person can arrive at a new meaning, a reason to live or a belief that all this was meant to be, then he will be stronger than anything that ever happened to him.

When people shift their habitual focus and meanings, there’s no limit on what life can become. A change of focus and a shift in meaning can literally alter someone's biochemistry in minutes. 

So take control and always remember: Meaning equals emotion and emotion equals life. Choose consciously and wisely. Find an empowering meaning in any event, and wealth in its deepest sense will be yours today. 

Once you create a meaning in your mind, it creates an emotion, and that emotion leads to a state for making your third decision:

Decision 3: What will you do?  

The actions you take are powerfully shaped by the emotional state you're in. If you're angry, you're going to behave quite differently than if you're feeling playful or outrageous. 

If you want to shape your actions, the fastest way is to change what you focus on and shift the meaning to be something more empowering.

Two people who are angry will behave differently. Some pull back. Others push through.

Some individuals express anger quietly. Others do so loudly or violently. Yet others suppress it only to look for a passive-aggressive opportunity to regain the upper hand or even exact revenge.  

Where do these patterns come from? People tend to model their behavior on those they respect, enjoy and love.

The people who frustrated or angered you? You often reject their approaches.

Yet far too often you may find yourself falling back into patterns you witnessed over and over again in your youth and were displeased by. 

It’s very useful for you to become aware of your patterns when you are frustrated, angry or sad or feel lonely. You can’t change your patterns if you’re not aware of them.

Now that you’re aware of the power of these three decisions, start looking for role models who are experiencing what you want out of life. I promise you that those who have passionate relationships have a totally different focus and arrive at totally different meanings for the challenges in relationships than people who are constantly bickering or fighting. 

It’s not rocket science. If you become aware of the differences in how people approach these three decisions, you’ll have a pathway to help you create a permanent positive change in any area of life.

Waktu kita tinggal di rumah seluas 50 m2 atau 5.000 m2, kesepian yg kita alami tetaplah sama.

3. Seseorang yg mencintaimu tak akan pernah meninggalkanmu walaupun ada 100 alasan untuk menyerah, dia akan menemukan 1 alasan untuk bertahan.

4. Banyak sekali perbedaan antara "Human Being & Being Human" (manusia & menjadi manusia). Hanya yg bijak yang mengerti tentang itu.

5. Hidup itu antara "B" birth (lahir) dan "D" death (mati),
diantara nya adalah ada "C" choice (pilihan) hidup yg kita jalani, keberhasilannya ditentukan oleh setiap pilihan kita.

Jika kamu mau berjalan cepat, Jalanlah sendirian. Tetapi Jika kamu ingin berjalan jauh, berjalanlah bersama-sama.

The highest price of attaining adulthood is probably losing our insensibility as a child. As we grow up, our parents will tell us over and over again, “Don’t be silly!”, “It does not make sense!” Along the way, we learn to observe rules, to obey the “logic” laid down by other people, and constantly not to look stupid by conforming to what is accepted by society as “sensible”.

Yet, time and time again, we see that progress is achieved and history is rewritten by those who challenge the norm. Those who don’t just accept things that should be, but imagie things that can be. Those who answer to cynical “why” with “why not?” Those who “don’t make sense”. In short, it’s the people who reconnect with their inner child, who are not afraid to be silly again.

All great enterprises, business innovations, creative ideas were born insensible. Time magazine early this year featured a cover story about the new sharing economy. Why would you let a stranger sleep in your apartment or ride in your car, even if he pays for it? It does not make sense! Yet this is the concept behind Airbnb, currently valued at $13 billion, and Uber, at $41.2 billion. The sharing economy did not make sense at the beginning, because it did not conform into any existing and established business models. But something that does not make sense is not necessarily a bad idea. And now traditional hospitality and taxi operators were caught off-guard. Even governments are still scratching their heads trying to adapt to this innovation.

Advertising industry also consistently shows that great ideas often do not make sense, as demonstrated by the recent Cannes Lions 2015. These are ideas that will make us go “Huh?”, before realizing their brilliance. Like ordering Domino’s pizza with emoji. Or how Samsung improves drivers’ safety by innovating on the trucks they need to overtake. Or how your advertising cost can be shared by many brands, like Newcastle’s Super Bowl ad.

Mengapa berinvestasi ke Bhinneka.com dan apa kelebihan Bhinneka.com di mata Anda?

Bhinneka.com merupakan situs e-commerce pertama di Indonesia. Kekuatan dan fokusnya ada di kategori produk 3C, yakni computer, consumer electronics, dan communication technology. Kedua, bersifat O2O (online to offline). Hari ini proses belanja orang tidak linier. Antara online dan offline sudah campur sekarang, bukan dikotomi lagi. Jadi Bhinneka punya kekuatan di O2O, salah satu yang matang di Indonesia. Kami juga memiliki 7 toko fisik, antara lain di Jakarta dan Surabaya. Nah, kenyamanan orang dan trust dapat dari sana.

Karena itu, saya yakin dengan kemampuan O2O dan 3C product, Bhinneka akan jadi market leader di Indonesia.

Kalau Anda lihat, hari ini tren e-commerce di Indonesia berusaha menjadi seperti Amazon dan eBay. Kita lihat eBay berjualan segala macam. Ada yang fokus dengan satu produk seperti Amazon, yang menjual buku, kemudian melebar ke mana-mana.

Hari ini, kami melihat Bhinneka mempunyai history yang sama seperti Amazon. Start dari satu produk, kemudian melebar. Model seperti itu lebih scalable dan akan tumbuh terus. Jika dibandingkan, Amazon akan tumbuh terus, sedangkan eBay linier. Kami percaya kombinasi 3C products dan O2O jadi pilar Bhinneka.com ke depan, karena 3C adalah salah salah satu alasan belanja paling mahal dan besar di Indonesia.

Pelanggan Bhinneka.com mempunyai basket size (rata-rata nilai belanja setiap pelanggan per waktu tertentu) online di Indonesia minimum Rp 500 ribu. Sedangkan e-commerce yang lain Rp 200-300 ribu per basket size.

Jadi pelanggan Bhinneka.com lebih banyak belanja dong?

Ya, profil Bhinneka lebih tinggi dan sedikit lebih bagus. Ini yang unik dari Bhinneka. Kami juga mempunyai banyak channel. Mulai online, offline, business to business (B2B), business to goverment (B2G), dan telemarketing. Jadi distribusi kami cukup merata dari semua channel. Kami bukan pemain murni online.

Apakah kinerja keuangan juga menjadi pertimbangan Ideosource?

Secara revenue, saya tak bisa sebutkan. Tapi kami lihat dari jumlah transaksi, revenue tumbuh hampir 100% di tahun ini dari tahun lalu. Tahun depan diproyeksikan tumbuh 100% lagi. Bhinneka adalah satu-satunya e-commerce Indonesia yang memiliki cash flow positif atau profit di Indonesia dalam skalanya. Sedangkan e-commerce lain masih bakar duit. Ini juga kali pertama Bhinneka menerima investasi. Bayangkan Bhinneka bisa survive selama 22 tahun di Indonesia yang didanai dari duit sendiri. Jadi aset Bhinneka luar biasa.

Tapi kenapa baru direalisasikan investasinya tahun ini?

Proses lamarannya lama. Kami mulai melakukan pendekatan sebenarnya sejak akhir tahun lalu. Kemudian meningkat menjadi katakanlah pacaran pada awal tahun ini. Cukup lama memang. Padahal saya kenal baik dengan Pak Hendrik Tio dan Tommy, selaku founder Bhinneka. Mereka teman lama, tapi selama ini tidak pernah berhubungan bisnis. Karena dulu saya dulu masih desainer.

Tapi tesis saya begini, saat bertemu dengan Temasek, perusahaan investasi Singapura di tahun lalu, saya ditanya, apakah kamu berinvestasi dengan model-model seperti ke startup kecil di Indonesia? Jika dana tidak jadi masalah, apa yang kamu investasi?

Saya menjawab, saya percaya ada empat industri yang bernilai miliaran dolar industri.

Satu, media online,
kedua e-commerce,
ketiga payment, dan
keempat travel.

Saya luput di transportasi, seperti aplikasi Go-Jek saat ini.

Kalau duit tidak bersalah, saya tidak investasi hanya di startup yang kecil-kecil. Karena itu seperti undian, investasi banyak kemudian hanya satu yang berhasil, seperti jackpot, untung besar. Jadi kalau duit tidak ada batasnya, mana lebih baik, beli perusahaan yang sudah jadi atau bangun sendiri. Jadi, saya bilang cari pemenangnya di setiap sektor industri, terus investasi. Risikonya tidak ada, tapi sudah positif. Masalahnya mungkin modalnya saja yang ditambah.

Di e-commerce, saya bandingkan dengan pemain lain. Saya bilang, ini Bhinneka adalah pemain lama, tapi web experience-nya masih bisa diinovasi karena di running dengan gaya lama.

Nah, dengan investasi Rp 300 miliar, kompensasi bagi Ideosource apa saja?

Sebenarnya secara struktur, ada kombinasi antara ekuitas dan convertible notes. Konversi ke ekuitas bisa diatur tergantung dengan kinerja perusahaan. Kami tetap minoritas dari sisi kepemilikan saham. Kalaupun semuanya dipenuhi, kami tetap minoritas. Kami masih ingin Bhinneka tetap menjadi founder oriented.

Apa saja rencana Ideosource membantu pengembangan Bhinneka ke depan?

Dasarnya hari ini, yang harus diinvestasi selalu teknologi. Kemudian fokus di mobile technology dan media sosial, yang kelihatan investasinya. Namun kalau teknologi tidak kuat, tidak bisa mengikuti kebutuhan bisnis yang scalable.

Contoh aplikasi Go-Jek, pertumbuhannya bagus, tetapi tidak siap menghadapi order dalam jumlah besar. Kami juga punya problem di sana.

Kemudian soal branding Bhinneka, ada proses. Kami diuntungkan dari waktu lama membangun. Jadi Bhinneka tidak akan ke mana-mana. Contoh hari ini, orang masih menggunakan Bhinneka sebagai komparasi harga. Kadang memang lebih mahal, karena perusahaan ini membayar pajak. Bahkan pembeli pribadi ada faktur pajaknya. Kami juga ada garansi dari vendor. Ini merupakan value bagi pelanggan.

Apa menariknya? jelas menarik bagi pelanggan, karena ada unsur pajaknya.

Kedua, bagi konsumen, ada unsur service, untuk menyelesaikan problem dari produk gadget yang dibeli. Jadi kami satu-satunya e-commerce, yang punya service center sendiri. Yang lain tidak punya. Itu value yang kami berikan ke pelanggan. Tidak mungkin semua berdasarkan harga. Faktor harga jual, bukan satu-satunya.

Pemain besar memang mempunyai kemampuan uang besar. Siapa pun, kalau punya duit Rp 100 miliar, tidak ada kata terlambat untuk beriklan di TV misalnya. Tapi pelanggannya stay atau tidak? Contoh produk handset seperti iPhone diskon 50%, pertama kali memang dibeli. Tapi apakah mereka ini pelanggan? Kalau besok ada diskon lagi dan membeli lagi, berarti mereka ini reseller.

Saya melihat, pemain besar dengan beri diskon harga besar-besaran dan iklan kuat-kuatan, justru hanya men-trigger reseller. Ini permainan orang-orang yang mencari diskon. Padahal diskon itu bagi mereka adalah akuisisi pelanggan. Kok mahal banget akuisisi pelanggan. Apa itu target profile yang tepat, menurut saya sih tidak. Bukan masalah spending nya, tapi apakah pelanggannya stay?

Di Bhinneka, konsumen yang kami anggap pelanggan, jika sudah berbelanja minimal tiga kali.

Pengembangan dari sisi produk?

Sisi produk, ada pengembangan. Karena kekuatan kami di produk 3C, jadi kami akan cari yang related. Faktanya, kategori produk pria, seperti jam tangan pria dan alat musik gitar sangat laku. Nah, banyak kategori yang bisa di-scale. Sebagai contoh kategori grocery products bukan core kami. Itu hanya untuk pick up item sebagai upaya untuk menyenangkan pelanggan. Riilnya, kami tidak generate bisnis dari situ, tapi dari 3C product. Itu kekuatan kami.

Fokus apa saja yang sudah direncanakan di 2016?

Di sisi online, kami akan fokus ke mobile platform. Social media juga diberesin. Website akan dibuat supaya lebih anak muda. Kedua, offIine, kami akan banyak tambah toko, karena ini sangat dibutuhkan. Saat ini kami punya 7 toko offline, tapi ingin punya toko di setiap ibukota provinsi di seluruh Indonesia. Targetnya sih 30 toko.

Ekspansi toko offline ini untuk memperluas distribusi dan pengembangan dari platform O2O. Karena online akan mendorong offline dan Online. Soal belanja modal 2016, kami masih bicarakan.

Hingga saat ini, berapa perusahaan yang diinvestasi Ideosource?

Total ada 22 perusahaan. Saya tidak ingat semuanya. Tapi ada
8wood (online fashion),
Stockbit (financial technology),
Saqina (e-commerce),
Touchten (game),
Acommerce,
Orori (e-commerce), dan
FemaleDaily (online media).

Mereka lumayan prominent. Sedangkan untuk yang kapital terlalu kecil akan sulit maju.

Kami putuskan, kalau investasi jangan terlalu kecil, karena berat, malah membuat perusahaannya gampang mati. Jadi lebih baik investasi yang besar. Di Indonesia terlalu banyak faktor X yang jadi problem.

Berapa total investasi yang sudah dikeluarkan hingga kini?

Total hingga saat ini kami sudah investasi US$ 30 juta. Bhinneka.com adalah investasi terbesar kami.

Siapa saja investor Ideosource?

Rata-rata investor lokal, bahkan semuanya masih investor lokal sampai hari ini. Obyektif mereka taruh duit di Ideosource macam-macam. Ada yang melihat sebagai value strategic. Misalnya Pak Indra Widjaja (anak keempat pengusaha Eka Tjipta Widjaja, pemilik Sinarmas Group), melihat Ideosource dengan harapan bisa mengenal anak-anak muda yang jago di financial industry. Jadi kalau bagus, mereka akan partisipasi sendiri. Sementara ini mereka minta kami untuk urusin ini karena masih kecil. Ada juga yang melihat sebagai return financial atau kombinasi keduanya.

Seperti apa exit plan Ideosource di setiap perusahaan yang diinvestasi?

Untuk yang kecil kami menggunakan trade sale. Contoh, kami sudah setengah exit di Touchten. Saat ini kepemilikan kami tinggal separo. Malahan investasi kami sudah balik 7 kali lipat. Waktu itu kami jual sebagian ke UOB Venture di Singapura.

Sementara yang Bhinneka, targetnya initial public offering (IPO), karena sizeable. Kami siap untuk IPO, karena Bhinneka mempunyai kinerja keuangan positif sejak bertahun-tahun. Selain itu, Bhinneka ini very Indonesia; founder-nya orang Indonesia, namanya saja Bhinneka. Bhinneka ini real case study Indonesia.

Lahir dan Besar Di Tengah Revolusi Budaya Cina

Zhang Xin yang kini berusia 47 tahun lahir dan besar dalam masa revolusi kebudayaan Mao Zedong. Dalam dekade tersebut, Mao ingin membentuk kembali Cina sesuai gayanya. Ia menyingkirkan kalangan terpelajar dan mereka yang dianggap kapitalis. Orang tua Zhang Xin memiliki gelar universitas sehingga dianggap berbahaya bagi negara. Mereka dianggap “musuh negara” serta wajib mengikuti pendidikan ulang di camp yang dibentuk oleh pemerintah.

Zhang Xin dan keluarga akhirnya kembali ke Beijing saat Xin berumur 8 tahun. Ibu Zhang Xin bekerja sebagai penerjemah. Walau memiliki pekerjaan, ia digaji dengan sangat kecil. Xin semasa kanak-kanak hidup dalam kemiskinan. Dia tidur di atas meja kerja ibunya. Mereka tidak mampu menyewa rumah, hingga terpaksa tidur di kantor dan memanfaatkan buku sebagai bantal.

Merantau Jadi Pintu Gerbang Perubahan Nasib

Di usianya yang baru menginjak 14 tahun, Xin pindah ke Hongkong bersama sang ibu. Tujuan mereka pindah memang untuk mengumpulkan uang agar Xin bisa bersekolah.
Keadaan di Hongkong ternyata tidak lebih baik dari Beijing. Dua orang wanita ini terpaksa bekerja sebagai buruh di sebuah perusahaan manufaktur. Tugas Xin adalah merangkai mainan dan berbagai alat rumah tangga sederhana.

Setelah cukup mengumpulkan uang, Zhang Xin membeli tiket sekali jalan ke London. Ia nekat pergi demi bisa mendapatkan kesempatan yang lebih baik. Tanpa bisa berbahasa Inggris sama sekali, Xin mencoba mendapatkan pekerjaan. Ia akhirnya diterima di sebuah kedai fish and chips. Sembari bekerja, Xin mendaftarkan diri di sebuah kursus Bahasa Inggris.

Mendapat Beasiswa dan Memutuskan Kembali Ke Cina

Kursus Bahasa Inggris tersebut membukakan jalan bagi Xin untuk mendapatkan beasiswa di University of Sussex, Inggris. Tidak cukup hanya sampai gelar sarjana, Xin juga mendapatkan beasiswa untuk program Master di Cambridge University. Setelah mendapatkan gelar S2 di Ilmu Ekonomi, Xin mendapatkan pekerjaan impian di Goldman Sachs.

Namun panggilan hatinya mengatakan bahwa pekerjaan itu tidak cocok untuknya. Ia memutuskan untuk kembali ke Cina dengan idealisme ingin membuat perekonomian Cina menjadi lebih terbuka. Sebelum kembali ke Cina takdir membawa Xin bertemu dengan Pan Shiyi yang kemudian menjadi suaminya.

Pan memiliki idealisme yang sama dengan Xin. Ia ingin mengembangkan perekonomian Cina lewat jalan membangun real estate. Diawal hubungan mereka, Pan mengajak Xin melihat sebuah konstruksi real estate dan mengatakan bahwa ia akan mengubah Beijing menjadi Manhattan. Xing hanya menertawakan perkataan Pan itu.

Menjadi Salah Satu Wanita Perubah Cina Lewat SOHO

Zhang Xin dan Pan Shiyi mendirikan perusahaan pengembang real estate SOHO pada 1995. Hingga saat ini mereka sudah mengembangkan lebih dari 56 miliar meter² tanah di Cina dan menyulapnya menjadi bangunan real estate.

Pada tahun 2013 Zhang masuk sebagai salah satu dari 24 wanita paling berpengaruh di dunia versi majalah Forbes. Dari majalah yang sama, ia juga menjadi salah satu dari 10 wanita wirausaha paling berpengaruh yang memulai usahanya dari 0. Walau sekarang kekayaannya sudah melebihi Oprah, Donald Trump dan bahkan ratu Inggris sekalipun Zhang Xin tetap bertahan pada gaya hidupnya yang sederhana.

Walau sudah jadi salah satu wanita paling kaya di dunia, Xin tetap berpenampilan sederhana. Dalam wawancara dengan Daily Telegraph dipaparkan bagaimana tetap rendah hatinya wanita ini.
Ia tidak memiliki tas Prada seperti kebanyakan sosialita, tidak heboh menggunakan pemulas wajah, dan aksesoris termahalnya adalah gelang emas di lengan. Ia bahkan menolak untuk terbang di penerbangan kelas satu.

Sebuah Kesadaran dan Penyesalan Seorang Steve Jobs di Saat-saat Akhir Hidupnya

Steve Jobs merupakan salah seorang yang pernah masuk ke dalam nama-nama daftar orang terkaya di Amerika. Ia merupakan mantan bos Apple Inc, Pixar Animation yang memiliki kekayaan bersih sebanyak $5,1 miliar pada tahun 2009.

Jobs meninggal pada 5 Oktober 2011 akibat komplikasi kanker pankreas bentuk langka. Dan sebelum kematiannya, ada sebuah kesadaran dan penyesalan yang menghantui pikirannya di saat-saat akhir hidupnya. Berikut kutipannya.

Dalam dunia bisnis, aku adalah simbol dari kesuksesan, seakan-akan harta dan diriku tidak terpisahkan, karena selain kerja, hobbyku tak banyak.

Saat ini aku berbaring di rumah sakit, merenung jalan kehidupanku, kekayaan, nama, kedudukan semuanya itu tidak ada artinya lagi.

Malam yang hening, cahaya dan suara mesin di sekitar ranjangku, bagaikan nafasnya maut kematian yang mendekat pada diriku.

Sekarang aku mengerti, seseorang asal memiliki harta secukupnya buat diri gunakan itu udah cukup. Mengejar kekayaan tanpa batas bagaikan monster yang mengerikan.

Tuhan memberi kita organ-organ perasa, agar kita bisa merasakan cinta kasih yang terpendam dalam hati kita yang paling dalam. Tapi bukan kegembiraan yang datang dari kehidupan yang mewah --- itu hanya ilusi saja.

Harta kekayaan yang aku peroleh saat aku hidup, tak mungkin bisa aku bawa pergi. Yang aku bisa bawa adalah kasih yang murni yang selama ini terpendam dalam hatiku. Hanya cinta kasih itulah yang bisa memberiku kekuatan dan terang.

Ranjang apa yang termahal di dunia ini? Ranjang orang sakit. Orang lain bisa bukakan mobil untukmu, orang lain bisa kerja untukmu, tapi tidak ada orang bisa menggantikan sakitmu. Barang hilang bisa didapat kembali, tapi nyawa hilang tak bisa kembali lagi.

Saat kamu masuk ke ruang operasi, kamu baru sadar bahwa kesehatan itu betapa berharganya.

Kita berjalan di jalan kehidupan ini. Dengan jalannya waktu, suatu saat akan sampai tujuan. Bagaikan panggung pentaspun, tirai panggung akan tertutup, pentas telah berakhir.

Yang patut kita hargai dan sayangkan adalah hubungan kasih antar keluarga, cinta akan suami - istri dan juga kasih persahabatan antar teman.

HARGAI SETIAP DETIK DALAM KEHIDUPAN KITA , ISI HIDUP KITA DGN PERKARA PERKARA YANG TDK BISA DIBELI DENGAN UANG .

Semoga kisah Steve Jobs ini dapat kita ambil hikmahnya bahwa hidup bukan semata-mata untuk mencari kekayaan saja. Apa gunanya kekayaan jika tidak bahagia? Apa gunanya kekayaan jika kita sakit lalu kemudian meninggal?

Memang uang akan mempermudah hidup seseorang, tapi uang bukanlah segalanya sehingga kita akhirnya diperbudak olehnya. Semoga kisah ini dapat menginspirasi dan menyadarkan kita yang selama ini selalu mengejar-ngejar harta duniawi dan melupakan hakikat hidup yang sesungguhnya.

Jokowi Di atas Angin, Paksa KMP Bela Setya Novanto, Luhut Terperangkap

Jokowi marah besar atas pencatutan namanya. Reaksi itu disetujui publik dan itu tidak berlebihan. Di sini Jokowi mulai di atas angin. Simpati publik mengalir deras kepadanya sebagai pihak yang dizalimi. Reaksi Jokowi selanjutnya terukur, pas, tepat dan cerdas. Dia tidak mau melaporkan si pencatut kepada polisi langsung. Bola liar dilempar Jokowi lebih dulu kepada Mahkamah Dewan Kehormatan (MKD) di DPR. Kepada MKD, Jokowi bersuara merdu: ‘Ia Jakowi sangat menghormati dan percaya kepada MKD’.

Jokowi yang cerdas, tahu betul siapa itu MKD. MKD itu adalah ‘Mahkamah Kepura-puraan Dewan’. Sebuah Mahkamah Pembela Novanto. Makanya Jokowi mengatakan ‘menghormati dan mempercayai’-nya. Kata ‘menghormati’ di sini berarti menghargai keberadaan MKD dalam arti sesungguhnya agar publik mengamini reaksi Jokowi dan tidak mencelanya. Namun di waktu bersamaan Jokowi mengatakan ‘mempercayai’ MKD. Di sini Jokowi bermain cerdas. Mempercayai MKD berarti percaya bahwa MKD itu akan membela Novanto dan mengadakan sidang penuh drama semu.

Lewat Jusuf Kalla yang ikut namanya dicatut, Jokowi memancing ‘darah muda’ KMP seperti Fadli Zon dan Fahri Hamzah. Kalla bermanufer, mencoba menggaruk kembali emosi lama mengerek kembali perseteruan KIH vs KMP. Sejumlah politisi PDIP sengaja memancing emosi Aburizal. ‘Awas, PDIP akan mengambil alih posisi ketua DPR’. Pancingan itu menyinggung harga dirinya. Ketua DPR itu adalah harga diri Aburizal Bakri yang termanifestasi dalam diri Setya Novanto. Maka tak berlebihan jika Aburizal Bakri mengatakan pelengseran Novanto dari jabatan ketua DPR adalah dosa. Haha, saat Aburizal dengan liciknya membuat gigit jari PDIP yang sebetulnya yang paling berhak mengambil posisi ketua DPR, itu bukan dosa. Saat terpojok, Ical mengeluarkan kata ‘dosa’.

Jebakan Jokowi yang melempar bola liar ke MKD dan memancing KMP membela Novanto berhasil. Kalkulasi Jokowi bahwa Aburizal Bakri akan menggerakkan KMP membela Novanto, sinyalnya sangat kuat adanya. Ical, panggilan Aburizal sudah mengeluarkan pernyataan bahwa KMP akan membela mati-matian Novanto. Di sinilah kecerdasan Jokowi terlihat. JIka KMP akan membela Novanto, otomatis kegeraman publik mengalir deras kepada KMP. Bagaimana mungkin Aburizal memihak orang yang jelas-jelas salah? Bagaimana mungkin KMP membela orang yang meminta ‘papa minta saham’. Itu adalah perilaku koruptif yang menjijikan rakyat. Membela orang yang berperilaku koruptif adalah sebuah kegilaan.

Jokowi memainkan psikologi massa. Pembelaan mati-matian KMP kepada Setya Novanto, justru diinginkan Jokowi. Jika KMP terus-menerus membela Setya Novanto, maka itu adalah bom waktu bagi mereka. Masyarakat semakin muak dan ujung-ujungnya reputasi partai-partai KMP semakin jeblok. Ini pukulan maut bagi partai-partai KMP yang menjagokan kadernya di Pilkada Desember mendatang. Begitu masyarakat mendengar calon dari Golkar, langsung muntah-muntah. Pada tataran ini, keuntungan ada di pihak PDIP. Demokrat sedikit kecipratan karena dia tidak pernah membela kadernya yang korup. Untuk tujuan jangka panjang, Jokowi mulai menanamkan kampanye terselubung memukul partai-partai KMP. Di samping itu, kasus Novanto, sebagai cadangan modal untuk bermanufer di masa mendatang.

Blunder Setya Novanto mencatut nama Jokowi jelas menguntungkan Jokowi. Kini Jokowi mempunyai alasan untuk menyikat para mafia di Freeport sekaligus mematikan libido para calo, makelar, para pemburu rente yang bermain di Freeport. Bahkan jika setelah kalkulasi sumber daya manusia Indonesia cukup mumpuni, maka Jokowi bisa memutuskan untuk tidak memperpanjang kontrak Freeport itu yang berakhir pada tahun 2021 mendatang. Moment kasus catut itu, datang tepat pada waktunya. Saat Freeport ‘keblinger’ ingin memperpanjang kontrak Freeport, sementara Jokowi mengatakan ‘tunggu’ hingga tahun 2019, kasus catut datang.

Apakah kasus catut itu tiba-tiba datang? Jelas tidak. Kepala BIN, Sutiyoso ikut bermain dengan Presdir Freeport, Maroef Syamsuddin, mantan wakil BIN. Skenario intelijen berbicara. Novanto yang ‘lihai bermain’ sudah lama diincar sebagai sosok perusak bangsa. Celakanya, Novanto lupa bahwa Syamsuddin, adalah orangya BIN. Novanto yang sudah terlena dengan jabatannya ketua DPR, dengan mudah masuk dalam skenario BIN dan direkam. Tugas Sutiyoso yang diemban dari Jokowi untuk melihat siapa yang bermain di Freeport berhasil dilakukan. Ternyata ‘malingnya’ dalam rekaman adalah: Luhut, Chalid, Novanto.

Kepercayaan Jokowi kepada Luhut sejak diangkat menjadi Kepala Staf Kepresidenan dan terakhir menjadi Menko Polhukam, ternyata disalahgunakan. Jokowi sudah tahu benar sepak terjang Luhut yang disebut-sebut ikut terlibat dalam bencana kebakaran hutan. Jokowi semakin tahu ‘kebusukan’ Luhut saat ada namanya disebut 16 kali oleh Novanto. Ternyata Luhut ikut ‘bermain’ dengan cantik. Revolusi mental yang sedang digalakkan oleh Jokowi, ternyata menjadi revolusi bermain cantik bagi Luhut.

Jokowi amat paham reaksi Luhut saat mengatakan bahwa soal kasus catut itu ‘saya dan kami tidak akan memperpanjang masalah’. Bukannya marah, tetapi memandang sepele kasus itu. Justru yang aneh, Luhut dengan panik menyebut Sudirman Said melapor ke MKD tidak atas restu Jokowi.
Padahal jelas sekali Jokowi dan Kalla mendorong Sudirman Said melapor ke MKD. Bahkan lebih geli lagi Luhut mengatakan bahwa laporan Sudirman itu ke MKD adalah aneh. Pesan pernyataan ini sangat vulgar sekali. Luhut tanpa malu membela Novanto karena takut luar biasa, kedoknya dibuka Novanto jika masalah diperpanjang.

Pembelaan Luhut atas Novanto itu jelas tindakan gila. Bagaimana mungkin seorang Menko Polhukam, yang namanya dicatut 16 kali tidak marah, tidak ikut juga melaporkan si pencatut ke MKD bahkan kepada polisi? Ini sebuah kegilaan. Namun Luhut rela melakukannya demi kepentingan bisnisnya. Kepentingan pribadi yang membuatnya masuk dalam perangkap. Luhut lupa daratan, bahwa ia sedang dipelototi oleh Jokowi. Masyarakat pun amat mencurigai Luhut sebagai ‘bagian pemburu rente’.

Perkembangan terakhir kasus catut itu melebar kemana-mana. Setya Novanto berbalik bermanufer dan menuduh Sudriman Said yang catut Presiden. Hal itu semakin memaksa Jokowi benar-benar berhitung terkait soal kasus catut itu akibat adanya keterlibatan Luhut yang selama ini orang kepercayaannya. Jokowi akan berhitung apakah melaporkan Novanto ke polisi seperti maunya Jusuf Kalla, membiarkannya mengawang-ngawang atau membiarkan Novanto menang atas Sudirman Said, mengorbankan Sudirman Said atau Luhut, atau dua-duanya. Dampak dan efeknya sedang dihitung dengan matang oleh para jenderal, politisi, ahli hukum, BIN yang ada di belakang Jokowi. Apapun keputusan Jokowi, indikasinya dia tetap di atas angin. Apapun keputusan MKD, Jokowi tetap di atas angin.

Terkait dengan Luhut, Jokowi yang sebetulnya sudah mau mengakhiri konsolidasi politiknya saat penggantian Budi Waseso pada Oktober lalu, kini kembali dipaksa melakukan konsolidasi strategis pada akhir Desember mendatang. Setelah Pilkada selesai, maka Jokowi akan mempertimbangkan penggantian Luhut sebagai Menko Polhukam pada reshuffle kabinet Jilid II dan bisa saja digantikan oleh Gatot yang sekarang dirindukan oleh Jokowi. Luhut yang juga pengusaha, tidak bisa membedakan instingnya yang mana kepentingan rakyat, dan yang mana kepentingan pribadi atau kepentingan bisnis. Keduanya dicampur-baur bagaikan kopi susu.

Jadi kasus catut itu menjadikan Jokowi di atas angin, memaksa KMP membela Setya Novanto secara membabi buta yang mengakibatkan KMP semakin terjerembab dan membuat Luhut masuk dalam perangkap, terbuka sendiri kedoknya.

Mahatma Gandhi: First they Ignore you, then Fight you and finally You Win

Dulu ketika Gandhi sdg belajar hukum di University College, London, ada seorg professor yg bernama Peter, yg kurang menyukai Gandhi.

Suatu hari ketika Prof. Peter sdg makan siang di kantin kampus, Gandhi dtg & duduk di sampingnya sambil membawa mkn siangnya.

Prof. Peter berkata, "Gandhi, apakah anda tdk mengerti bahwa seekor babi dg seekor burung tdk duduk berdampingan untuk makan?"

Gandhi bagai org tua yg menatap anak nakal menjwb, "Jgn khawatir Prof. Sy akan segera terbang" & Gandi segera ngeloyor ke meja lainnya.

Muka Prof. Peters memerah penuh kemarahan & memutuskan utk balas dendam.

Hari berikutnya di dlm kelas dia sengaja mengajukan pertanyaan ke Gandhi: "Gandhi, andai kamu sdg berjalan tiba2 menemukan paket berisi 1 tas penuh uang & 1 tas penuh dgn kebijaksanaan; Mana yg kamu ambil?"

Tanpa ragu Gandhi menjwb "Ya uang lah."

Prof. Peters, tersenyum sinis & berkata "Jika itu aku, mk aku akan mengambil kebijaksanaan."

Gandhi menjwb: "...seseorg itu mengambil apa yg tdk dia punya."

Prof. Peters hilang akal, tdk bs berkata apa2.
Dgn penuh kemarahan dia menulis kata "idiot" pd lembar jwban ujian Gandhi & memberikan ke Gandhi.

Gandhi mengambil & duduk sambil berusaha keras tetap tenang.

Bbrp menit kemudian Gandhi berdiri & menghampiri sang professor seraya berkata dgn sgt sopan, "Prof. Peter, anda hanya menanda tangani lembar jwban sy tapi belum memberi nilai." 😊

Segala sesuatu yang kamu kehendaki supaya orang perbuat kepadamu, perbuatlah demikian juga kepada mereka.

We Are Alive when We Know What We Die For

The Monk Moment -

Many great entrepreneurs have had a moment when they have lost everything. Monks create this situation intentionally through "Vairagya" when they give up all money and possessions. Many entrepreneurs end up in the same situation unintentionally. :-)

Elon Musk lost $180M and was in debt in 2008. Seven years later, he's worth $13 billion, but he'd be ready to risk it all again. Steve Jobs lost his entire Apple fortune by 1994, betting it on NeXT and Pixar. In 1995 everything turned around, he sold NeXT to Apple, Pixar to Disney and he passed away an icon. Walt Disney mortgaged away his entire fortune in the 1950s to build Disneyland, against everyone's advice. He too went from giving up everything to becoming a legend. Each bet everything material they had on something invisible - their Purpose and Vision.

Monks call the state that comes after giving up everything "Moksha" which means liberation from the illusion. We're not alive until we know what we'd die for.

I'm not saying great entrepreneurs are monks, but they do have 'monk moments' when they lose everything.

Many of the greatest entrepreneurs unintentionally find themselves in this state by betting everything on their dream. Maybe you're in this place right now. It is a place of pure power. When you have nothing to lose, you have infinite potential.

That is provided you don't focus on what you've lost, but on everything you Have to Gain. That's when everything turns around.

As Walt Disney said "I don't make movies to make money. I make money to make movies".
That's the paradox of entrepreneurs having a 'near-death' experience where they lose it all. Steve Jobs wrote:

“Remembering that I'll be dead soon is the most important tool I've ever encountered to help me make the big choices in life.

Almost everything--all external expectations, all pride, all fear of embarrassment or failure--these things just fall away in the face of death, leaving only what is truly important. Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose. You are already naked. There is no reason not to follow your heart.

No one wants to die. Even people who want to go to heaven don't want to die to get there. And yet, death is the destination we all share. No one has ever escaped it, and that is how it should be, because death is very likely the single best invention of life. It's life's change agent. It clears out the old to make way for the new.”

Rizal Ramli Benar, Kini Saatnya!

Memang tidak mudah mengurus negara dengan 250 juta kepala ini. Masing-masing merasa benar sendiri. Namun sebenarnya apapun perbedaannya tidak apa-apa selama kerangka berfikir dan dasar tindakannya untuk kepentingan rakyat banyak. Dan yang terpenting adalah apapun keputusannya harus berlandaskan pasal 33 UUD 45.

Menteri Koordinator Bidang Maritim dan Sumber Daya, Rizal Ramli menegaskan jika para pejabat dan pembuat kebijakan di Indonesia melaksanakan pasal 33 UUD 45 maka Indonesia akan makmur. Demikian ditegaskan Rizal saat menjadi keynote speaker dalam acara Roundtable Discussion Lembaga Ketahanan Nasional ( Lemhanas), Jakarta Pusat pada hari Selasa kemarin (3/11/2015).

Rizal Ramli lebih lanjut mengatakan, "Kita miskin karena kita kaya. Kalau kita miskin beneran... ya pantas miskin. Tapi ini karena kita kaya.".

Apa yang dikatakan Rizal memang benar, sejarah sudah mencatat sebuah cerita sedih tentang kemiskinan sebuah negara kaya akan sumberdaya alamnya, tapi sayang dibawa kabur keluar negeri tercinta ini tanpa kita dapat sesuatu apa yang berarti. Buktinya dari dulu kita begini terus. Rakyat kebanyakan terus mengalami kesulitan hidup, yah .... hanya cukup hidup pas-pasan saja. Kalau ada, itupun hanya gula-gula permen penghibur saja. Walaupun ada segelintir kecil orang mengalami hidup yang lebih dari cukup bahkan berlimpah. Kita lihat saja crude oil dibawa keluar, disuling di luar negeri kemudian dibawa kembali ke negara penghasil minyak yang namanya Indonesia. Berapa biaya atau cost yang terbuang dari perjalanan hilir mudik crude oil atau minyak mentah tersebut? Delivery cost itu bisa mencapai USD 30/barrel. Sesuatu yang sebenarnya sia-sia.

Dibidang tambang, sama juga. Berapa banyak hasil tambang kita dibawa berbongkah-bongkah tanpa kita sempat tahu dengan pasti barang tambang apa saja yang dibawa keluar negeri itu karena tidak adanya smelter disini. Padahal hasil tambang kita mengandung REE Rare Earth Element atau unsur tanah jarang yang baru ditemukan dan memiliki harga jual tinggi, misalnya bahan baku untuk baterai masa kini yang dipergunakan oleh smartphone.

Menurut Rizal, sekarang inilah waktu yang tepat untuk menulis ulang sejarah bangsa. Rizal membeberkan sudah banyak kesempatan emas yang diberikan oleh Tuhan untuk Indonesia namun disia-siakan karena ulah pejabatnya yang tunduk pada asing dan gampang disogok oleh pemilik modal.

Rizal Ramli yang sudah menjadi aktifis sejak masa kuliahnya di ITB dulu ditahun 1970an dan bahkan pernah ditangkap ketika menjadi aktifis mahasiswa tahun 1977-1978 karena melawan rejim Soeharto ketika itu, merasa sangat prihatin terhadap kondisi negara dan bangsa ini. Rizal sudah membuktikan dirinya untuk tidak mau berkomplot dengan comfort zone members, dengan para pemburu rente. Dia terbukti konsisten sejak dulu. Kini ketika dia berada di tampuk pemerintahan, dia tidak berputus asa bahkan dia ingin membantu pemerintah agar semuanya lebih fair. Rizal sama sekali tidak anti asing. Dia cuma ingin semuanya berada dalam tataran fairness, win-win game.... not win-lose game.

Kenapa selama ini terjadi  unfairness? Karena ulah pejabatnya sendiri yang mau diatur dan menyerahkan segalanya kepada pihak asing, maunya enak dan terima bersih (termasuk rente) dan tidak mau berkeringat. Dalam pikiran pejabat kita hanya mau tebang pohon di hutan dan langsung dijual kayunya secara gelondongan tanpa mau pikir untuk downstream nya sehingga bernilai tambah (added value).  Sungguh menyedihkan memang. Oleh karena itu kita harus tatap masa depan dengan penuh harapan dan semangat. Kita harus keluar dari lubang kegelapan tersebut. Sudahlah, kita buka lembaran baru.

Ya..., nasib bangsa ini sekarang terletak ditangan kita sendiri. Maukah kita berubah? Kalau ya... mulailah dari sekarang.

Surabaya (ANTARA News) - Menteri Koordinator Bidang Perekonomian Darmin Nasution menyampaikan untuk meningkatkan pertumbuhan perekonomian di Indonesia dibutuhkan kebijakan besar untuk mentransformasi perekonomian yang programnya memerlukan waktu panjang karena menyangkut sektor ekonomi, perdagangan, pertanian dan industri.

"Jadi, meningkatkan pertumbuhan perekonomian bukan hanya deregulasi saja yang dibutuhkan," ujarnya di sela pembukaan Sidang Dewan Pleno I dan Musyawarah Nasional Khusus Himpunan Pengusaha Muda Indonesia (HIPMI) di Surabaya, Sabtu.

Menurut dia, jika ingin ekonomi bisa berkembang dengan baik maka sektor industri harus dijadikan motor penggerak perekonomian.

"Selain itu, keberadaan BUSINESS AGGREGATOR juga diperlukan sehingga bisa tercipta standar yang hampir sama," ucapnya.

"Kita membutuhkan para pelaku usaha yang bisa menjadi HUB dan Facilitator bagi para UKM untuk:
- membenahi desain packaging
- memasarkan dan membuka pasar global.
Saya rasa para pemuda dengan intelektual dan skill lebih baik, bisa bawa UKM products ini ke level lebih tinggi."

Di tempat sama, Gubernur Jawa Timur Soekarwo menilai bahwa pengusaha muda mempunyai peran strategis dalam membangun bangsa, terutama sebagai penggerak perekonomian.

Untuk mewujudkannya, kata dia, dibutuhkan sinergitas dan soliditas dengan pemerintah agar tercipta akselerasi dalam pertumbuhan ekonomi.

"Jika para pengusaha muda ini terus melakukan sinergi dan kerja sama kuat maka dalam MEA nanti saya yakin bisa menang. Apalagi ditunjang dengan kebijakan-kebijakan yang telah digulirkan Pemerintah Pusat maupun Daerah," katanya.

"Semisal, saya di sini mengkonsep Jatimnomics, yang mencoba memposisikan Jatim sebagai provinsi industri berbasis UMKM dengan penguatan aspek ekonomi berupa peningkatan produksi, sistem pembiayaaan yang kompetitif, dan pemasaran yang inovatif," katanya.

Dukungan para pengusaha muda, lanjut dia, juga tepat diberikan karena daya saing Jatim menduduki peringkat kedua se-Tanah Air.

Sementara itu, Ketua Umum HIPMI Bahlil Lahadiala mengatakan, SDP I dan Munassus ini menjadi ajang konsolidasi para pengusaha muda untuk merapatkan barisan menghadapi tantangan perlambatan ekonomi dan implementasi Masyarakat Ekonomi ASEAN (MEA) 2015.

Ia mengaku optimistis, anggota HIPMI yang jumlahnya mencapai lebih 42 ribu orang se-Indonesia akan berkontribusi dalam dunia ekonomi dan mampu menyerap tenaga kerja yang tak bisa diremehkan.

"Anggota HIPMI tentu mempunyai bisnis dan mereka pasti punya karyawan. Kami ingin mendorong agar teman-teman pengusaha muda tidak patah arang menghadapi kondisi ekonomi sekarang," katanya.
