9 Things that Productive People Refuse To Do

9 Things Really Productive People Refuse to Do

BY BILL MURPHY JR.  @BILLMURPHYJR

Being more productive isn't just about what you do--it's also about what you don't.

If you want to be more productive, don't start by taking on new habits and routines. Instead, do less. The most productive people know how to stay focused and how to say no--but most importantly, they know how to delegate and outsource.

To get a handle on the time-sucking, productivity-killing tasks you should always hand off to others, I reached out to a variety of sources, including the folks at Zirtual, an online virtual assistant service. Here are the top things you should avoid if you want to spend your time on what's really important:

1. Micromanaging your calendar

Yes, you need a calendar. No, you don't want to be the person spending hours trying to figure out what appointment goes where. Both Maren Kate, the founder of Zirtual, and her colleague Joanna Cohen, cited this as the biggest thing a virtual assistant can do for you.

Whether you need to remember to send a follow-up email, cancel a free trial, or put out the garbage on Tuesday night, "anything that needs to go on the calendar is fair game," Cohen said. "Doctors, dentists, hair, etc. It's a good thing if your assistant knows these contact details better than you do."

2. Buying stuff online

Just about any online-shopping task can be handed off--even if you're not comfortable turning over your credit cards to an assistant, you can at least ask him or her to narrow down your choices. The same thing applies to making travel arrangements.

"Getting in the habit of handing these off is huge," Cohen says. "Gifts, Amazon orders, clothes, tickets--anything that requires checkout, really. Decision fatigue is real."

3. Finding a house or apartment

Granted, you're probably not going to have an assistant buy a house for you, but that doesn't mean they can't handle many of the interim decisions. In fact, that's why we have real estate agents, right? It makes a lot of sense to rely on them to do research and compile properties to look at.

To add an extra level of hands-offedness, why not have a trusted assistant be your agent's primary point of contact? At the very least, that's who your agent should be dealing with to arrange appointments and funnel questions.

4. Initial research/inquiries

This can apply to many tasks, but outsourcing the first steps of research or outreach on any project is a great habit. Whether you need to buy a big-ticket item like a car, write a speech, or choose a restaurant for your next big date, let someone else do the legwork. (An added bonus is that having an assistant act as a gatekeeper like this can force competing vendors to make better offers than they might if they spoke to you directly.)

The main point here however is that you'll have more focus when you have to make a final decision. You'll be better able to make quick, solid choices if you haven't been the one spending hours assembling the information, and perhaps developing an undue emotional attachment to the search process.

5. Cleaning

As someone who doesn't particularly like cleaning--and frankly isn't very good at it--perhaps I'm biased on this one. Still, the time you spend on straightening your office or scrubbing the bathroom could likely be spent more productively on your business.

For that matter, most maintenance tasks, whether we're talking about fixing the kitchen sink or replacing a faulty printer, are prime opportunities to bring in someone who will likely do the work better than you would anyway. The key is to ensure that you're using that newly available time on other, more productive tasks.

6. Commuting and "taxiing"

If you think you're being productive during your commute, you're fooling yourself. Likewise, if you're spending hours behind the wheel, shuttling yourself or family members from one appointment to another, you might as well give up on the goal of being productive.

These can be harder tasks to outsource. Moreover, you may have other reasons actually to want to handle them. (Maybe driving your kids around accounts for a big part of the one-on-one time you have with them.) Fair enough, but time you spend behind the wheel or navigating public transportation is time you want to reclaim if you can.

7. Staying in touch with friends and family

Of course you want to spend time with friends and family, but do you really need to go back and forth nine times with Aunt Sally about who is going to bring the potato salad to the family reunion? For that matter, should you really slow down your work around the holidays to spend an afternoon (or more) addressing and mailing greeting cards?

Outsource these details to an assistant. Let him or her worry about the scheduling, and free yourself to live in the moment when you're actually with your loved ones.

8. Administrivia

Bureaucracy is a necessary evil, even if it's anathema to most entrepreneurs. Whether you're the boss running a huge organization or simply a person trying to be more productive while at the same time keeping up to date on your TPS reports, these are prime opportunities to hand off make-work to others.

"You wouldn't want to delegate [a] business proposal...but you definitely should delegate that expense report," Cohen says.

9. Anything you've procrastinated doing

This list is by nature incomplete, and I'm sure you can think of many other examples. One of the most revealing tests, however, is whether you've dreaded doing something or put off addressing it. Is it worth it to you to have someone else to do it, while you focus on more productive tasks? If so, hand it off. If not, maybe you can just cross if off your list anyway.

"Really productive people are great at outsourcing, to the point that they're doing only the stuff they love and excel at," Cohen says.

Sementara itu, pembiayaan motor mencapai angka 280.000 unit. Zacharia menyebutkan, sepeda motor merek Honda masih mendominasi pembiayaan.

Kredit UMKM Masih Terkendala Dalam Pembuatan Laporan Keuangan

Tips Pengusaha UKM Mendapatkan Modal

(Ism)

20 Lessons from Walt Disney on Entrepreneurship and Innovation

http://www.forbes.com/sites/lewishowes/2012/07/17/20-business-quotes-and-lessons-from-walt-disney/

20 Lessons from Walt Disney on Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Chasing Your Dreams

With the title of being the “Happiest Place on Earth” it’s amazing to think it only took one year to conceptualize and create

Disneyland before opening its gates on July 17, 1955.

As a tribute to 57 years of bringing imagination to life, let’s see what Walt Disney had to say about innovation, entrepreneurship and chasing our dreams.

Words of Wisdom From Walt Disney
The following 20 quotes are just a small glimpse into the mind and imagination of Walt Disney.

Beneath each quote I’ll be take the artistic liberty to explain what his words mean to me.  As for you, they may mean something else, but I’m sure we will both agree that they’ll be nothing less than inspiring.

1.  “All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them.”

Yes, it did take money, employees and a large team of artists to create Disneyland, but it all begins with courage.  It takes courage to begin the journey towards our dreams and courage to see them through.

2.  “All the adversity I’ve had in my life, all my troubles and obstacles, have strengthened me… You may not realize it when it happens, but a kick in the teeth may be the best thing in the world for you.”

Notice Walt didn’t say, “Hang in there” or “You can get through it.”  He instead says it might be the “best thing in the world” for us.

It doesn’t mean it’ll feel good, but when does getting stronger ever feel good?

3.  “Disneyland is a show”

What kind of “show” are you putting on for your clients or customers?  Remember that everything is communicating a message.  Your clothes, your words, your voicemail, your smile – EVERYTHING!

Are you sending the right message?

4.  “Disneyland is a work of love. We didn’t go into Disneyland just with the idea of making money.”

There’s got to be more at play then simply making money.  It’s not enough simply to “love what you do” – your work must be an investment of love.  This means you’re ok with not getting a complete ROI on all you do. (Which is usually the “secret” for accomplishing the impossible).

5.  “Disneyland will never be completed. It will continue to grow as long as there is imagination left in the world.”

Your work is never finished.  As a creator and innovator there’s always more to create or innovate. This means you’re job is to get your product into the market ASAP and then tweak afterwards.

If Disneyland was built in 1 year, I think we can finish our lingering projects a lot sooner than we think.

6.  “I am not influenced by the techniques or fashions of any other motion picture company.”

Don’t allow other websites or businesses to influence your unique idea.  The moment you do that it’s no longer unique.  No one gets the title of “innovator” by copying others or worry about the opinions of others.

7.  “I have no use for people who throw their weight around as celebrities, or for those who fawn over you just because you are famous.”

Don’t waste your time with arrogant entrepreneurs – no matter how successful they are.  They’ve obviously forgotten their roots and will eventually pay the price for.  Make sure you hang out with the right people.

8.  “I only hope that we don’t lose sight of one thing – that it was all started by a mouse.”

It’s great to innovate, but don’t forget why the market fell in love with you in the first place.  Never neglect your core business.

9.  “I would rather entertain and hope that people learned something than educate people and hope they were entertained.”

A large part of Business success is being memorable.  That’s YOUR job – not theirs.

Feelings trump facts.

10.  I’d say it’s been my biggest problem all my life… it’s money. It takes a lot of money to make these dreams come true.

Make no mistake.  It takes money to fail AND succeed.

11.  “If you can dream it, you can do it.

I think that says it all.

12.  “It’s kind of fun to do the impossible.”

The impossible CAN be done.  Never forget that.

13.  “It’s no secret that we were sticking just about every nickel we had on the chance that people would really be interested in something totally new and unique in the field of entertainment.”

Innovation is a gamble, but something worth betting on if it’s truly something unique and new.

14.  “Mickey Mouse popped out of my mind onto a drawing pad 20 years ago on a train ride from Manhattan to Hollywood at a time when business fortunes of my brother Roy and myself were at lowest ebb and disaster seemed right around the corner.”

You never know when your greatest breakthrough is going to hit.  It’s not over till it’s over.

15.  “Of all of our inventions for mass communication, pictures still speak the most universally understood language.”

I think Walt Disney would have loved and leveraged the heck out of YouTube.

16.  “Of all the things I’ve done, the most vital is coordinating those who work with me and aiming their efforts at a certain goal.”

Everyone must be on the same page, going after the same goal.

17.  “The more you like yourself, the less you are like anyone else, which makes you unique.”

Once again, it takes courage to go after our dreams.  I believe the first step is having the courage to accept WHO we are and what OUR dreams are – not what we think they should be.

18.  “The way to get started is to quit talking and begin doing.

Don’t get motivated – get moving.  It’s all about the Hustle.

19.  “There is more treasure in books than in all the pirate’s loot on Treasure Island.”

I love this one because it’s important to never stop learning and never stop using our imagination.  Reading allows us to do that.

20.  “A man should never neglect his family for business.

As entrepreneurs we must consistently remind ourselves of this.  It’s too easy to allow the entire day to slip by in a blink without taking the time to acknowledge or reach out to those that should matter most, our family.

Walk This Way…
When constructing Main Street U.S.A. Walt felt is was important to keep one thing in mind.

“People won’t go down a long corridor unless there’s something promising at the end. You have to have something the beckons them to ‘walk this way.” - Walt Disney

With over 600 million people visiting Disneyland since it’s opening on July 17th 1955 it’s safe to say that Walt Disney found something to beckon people to “walk this way.”

I believe Walt Disney would want each of us to not only visit his park, but to also dream big dreams for our business’s and create a compelling reason that beckons people to “walk this way.”

Happy Anniversary Mr. Disney.

6 Things Really Productive People Do

6 Things Really Productive People Do
BY KEVIN DAUM  @AWESOMEROAR

Have you noticed that some people just seem to accomplish tons and still appear happy and relaxed? Here are six tips for becoming more productive.

People often ask me, amazed, how I manage to do so many things. Aside from writing two columns every week, I speak regularly, travel, create videos, manage my business, write books, consult with five companies, network, socialize, cycle, run, read, cook, sleep six to seven hours a night and have dates with my wife. Oh yeah, I watch a lot of television while hanging out with my dog as well.

Okay, I know it sounds ridiculous. But accomplishing my preferred future requires this level of activity. I have the same 24 hours in a day that you do, but I have made specific choices that allow me to make the most of every day, and still feel happy and relaxed. Perhaps these tips will help you make the most of your time as well.

1. Pick Your Priorities

Make choices about the activities in your life. With most endeavors, you can either go deep or go wide. Focus on spending time that for you is fun and productive. If you like big families, have them, but recognize up front that kids require time and you'll have to choose a lifestyle that supports quality time with them, for you to feel satisfied. I chose the life of a consultant because I like to work with companies, but don't want the life of a big company CEO. My choices are based on the lifestyle I want.

2. Go For Efficiency

You don't do everything well. The things you do well usually give you greater joy and require less time. Don't take on something with a steep learning curve if you don't have the available bandwidth. Design your life to meet your wants, and recognize when to say no to opportunities that are outside the scope of your desires. Live your life by design, not default.

3. Integrate Your Activities

Many people go crazy trying to figure out how to spend time with friends, family, work, play, etc.  Stop trying to balance time between them all. Find ways to enjoy them in a combined manner. Build your social life around people in your work environment. Find people in your company who share common interests and develop your career around the people and activities you love. If everything is out of synch to the point where you feel pulled and stressed, a change is likely imminent one way or another.

4. Actively Manage Time-wasters

Social media, family, friends, employees, co-workers and general whiners all under certain circumstances can suck precious time from you if you let them. Budget your time for necessary activities. Make a choice to limit non-supportive interactions that don't energize you. As for social media, it can easily be a black hole for time and productivity. Use it appropriately and sparingly as a tool to support your endeavors and social needs, but lay off the Farmville.

5. Be an Active Learner

You would think learning takes more time from you, but actually there are always new tools and new ways of doing things that can save you time on mundane tasks freeing you up for your priorities. Always be looking for a new way to gain back an hour here or there. Just try it and dump it quick if it starts to drag on.

6. Lighten Up

No need to beat yourself up if you can't do all the things you want because you are handling other stuff that needs attention. It happens. The world won't come to an end in most cases just because you left a few things undone. Celebrate progress and keep refining toward a happy productive existence. This is why making lists and crossing off items is a staple in any productivity handbook. Every completion is a small victory that adds up in a big way.

Hire The Right People Only

Mengapa?

Look for the “can do” Attitude

Scrap the traditional interview

The last but not least, remember this mantra:

Great talent can make all the difference to your success
